At Billesley Primary School, the safety and well-being of our children are at the heart of everything we do. Every child, regardless of age, gender, culture, community, race, or religion, has the right to be protected from harm and to learn in a safe, nurturing environment. We demonstrate our commitment to our children in all aspects of school life and hold all stakeholders accountable for the very highest standards of safeguarding.

Our Core Principles

  • A Culture of Vigilance: all staff and volunteers are trained to identify signs of abuse or maltreatment, and understand that ‘it could happen here’.
  • Child-Centred Approach: pupil leadership guides our actions and ensures pupil voice is central to decision-making.
  • Partnership: we work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to provide the very best care and education for our children.

Our Procedures

  • Robust Recruitment: rigorous safeguarding checks, including ID, Enhanced DBS, Barred List, Right to Work, two references and much more, for all adults irrespective of roles.
  • Statutory Compliance: full adherence to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Working Together to Safeguard Children, including weekly staff safeguarding training.
  • Clear Reporting: a streamlined internal system for reporting and tracking concerns with ‘real-time' monitoring and response.
  • Curriculum Integration: teaching children how to stay safe through PSHE lessons, P4C lessons, online safety, healthy relationships, Rights of the Child assemblies, pupil voice meetings, award assemblies, current affairs discussions, open door policies and daily access to our pastoral and senior leadership teams.

Prevent Duty

Should you have any concerns regarding a child or family being at risk of radicalisation or being drawn into terrorism through exposure or engagement with extremist viewpoints, beliefs or language  (irrespective of race, gender, or cultural background), then please speak with Mr Hudson, who is the Single Point of Contact (SPOC).
